Priti Karn was born in 1979 in Madhubani district in Bihar. Priti is a Physics graduate and hails from a family of talented women artists, her grandmother Godawari Dutta is her guru and a Padma Shree awarded Mithila artist of world renown.
Priti has been awarded a scholarship for Madhubani painting by CCRT (Delhi), the Bihar State Award, District Level Silver Medal, Madhubani Bihar Inter State Award and Certificates from the State Lalit Kala Academy UP and from Shilp Sang Rajgir (Bihar).
Priti’s works resonate her grandmother’s aesthetics yet her works are entirely and visibly her own. She sometimes uses bold and solid backgrounds and experiments with the interplay of delicate and bold. Priti like her grandmother and mother before her uses handmade inks and pens on hand made paper but also creates canvas and acrylic work. What sets Priti’s works apart from that of her contemporaries and her family of artists, is her extraordinary selection of scenes, stories and reinterpretations of them into her works.
